During the week of assisting facilitating the mindfulness training we led the practice of the raisin meditation. This a meditation I have both led and participated in many times.
My first ever experience one of which frustration rose, my thoughts presenting such as why? What a waste of time, boredom etc. This first time years behind me now and my current self can also acknowledge I was in a very different place all those years ago.

Revisiting this experience this week I was again struck with something new and this I share with you.

This tiny raisin, so small some may view as insignificant, lost amongst a handful of other raisins as they pour out of the box, in to your hand and then lost all together in your mouth. (If you like raisins of course!) This individual raisin, swept up with the others. Not noticed, seen or heard.
We carried out the meditation, placed it in the palm of our hands and explored the senses with a beginners mind. What does it look like? The ridges and grooves present. What does it sound like? The surprising sound of the raisin exploding in my ear and not only that the pressure of touch when making the sound inviting the smells to explode as I next brought it to my nose; memories of school lunches flooding back. Then taste, the desire to rush it. The flavour enhanced as the process slowed down.

I saw it, I heard it, I felt it and realised once more how much we miss along the way. How many things are missed and not properly seen or heard!

A small fruit with a BIG message. These messages are everywhere, we just need to intentionally be where we are, with what is happening and we see and feel so much more.

Give it a try!
